Prina (Helping you find GREAT ways to change your workplace) Shah
Hello and welcome to this episode of Ways to Change the Workplace with myself, Prino Shah. I love what I do. I'm a global leadership coach, a consultant, a trainer, a keynote speaker, a podcaster. I help you to develop your leaders, your teams, and I help you to optimize your organizational cultures. I'm here to help you find ways to change your workplace. Why? Because we spend more time in our waking day at work than we do with our loved ones. It has to be a good place to be. So in this podcast, you can expect a mix of interviews with amazing thought leaders and then some solo episodes from myself as well. Strap yourselves in. So anger management at work. Let's discuss it. Let's all just discuss what we really don't, but what we should. We really get angry at work sometimes, and uh to admit that takes gods. So kudos to you for tuning into this episode, and then let's move on. To the reasons why you may get angry at work, it may be due to different personalities, as in personality clashes, it could be due to high pressure, it could be due to a lack of resourcing, you could be getting angry due to inefficiencies, you could be getting angry due to unfairness at work, you could be getting angry due to bad leadership, and the list goes on and on and on and on. I have supported many an organization, an executive, an executive team, a leader, uh team on the ground. Oh gosh, through consulting, through the work that I do with coaching, and through the kind of training that I facilitate and design tailored stuff. Um, a lot of it does come down to the root cause of anger management. So this issue spreads far and wide. And um, I posted something recently on my Instagram and it got so many comments in my direct messages. Um, you cannot believe it. So I thought I'd do an episode on anger management, and I'm gonna give you a Zen story. But before I give you a Zen story on anger management, let me show you. I'll try and um play the video in audio so you can hear what it is. So um, if you're listening, then what it is is it's a cartoon, and I'll press play and then I'll show you, I'll inform you who it is attributed to.
SPEAKER_00I said breathe in, breathe out. I'm not gonna scream in, shall I say breathe in, breathe out, don't knock their ass up. I said breathe in, breathe out. I'm knocking screaming, shall I say breathe in, breathe out, don't knock their ass up. I said breathe in, breathe out.
SPEAKER_01What it is is it's a I said breathe in little video in uh cartoon form by an account in um Instagram called the Introverted Attorney. Hilarious, a bit repetitive and annoying after a while, but you get the message, and it may well resonate to you as well. And the strap line or the little text in front of uh at the top of the video says my inner dialogue when someone's rude at work, but I still have bills to pay. I said, breathe in, breathe out, blah blah blah. I'm not gonna knock their ass out. Something along the lines of that is what it was. So there you go. We've all felt that clearly because so many people message me privately on Instagram when I put that up. So let's talk about anger management at work. I have felt it, no doubt you have felt it for all of the above reasons that I have just stated. Let's get into a zen story. That's next. This one is on anger management, and I really want to talk to you about anger management. I'm a calm person usually, but my gosh, I have a temper when triggered. Right? So, anger management 101. I've got a really good zen story for you, and what I'll do is in the show notes, I'll put the link to the story as well because you have to read it. So, there are two monks walking along, and they come along a river, and there's a woman with a beautiful long gown standing there, and she can't cross the river because she's gonna get her gown wet. So there's an old older monk and a younger monk, and the older monk says to her, Madam, what's up? And she says, I can't cross because my outfit's gonna get wet. So the older monk lifts her up, carries her across the river, and puts her down at the river's edge on the other side, and then he continues walking with the young monk. And as they're walking, the young monk has an attitude, he is being grumpy towards the old monk. And the old monk says to him, What's up? What's happened? Your your uh demeanor has really changed towards me. I sense anger and some kind of you know conflict or something's not right between us. And the young monk says to the old monk, You touched that woman, you touched a woman. Really angry is what he was. And the old monk calmly says to him, I left her at the river bed. You're still holding on to her. Think about that. When it comes to anger management, we hold on to a lot of stuff. So my question to you is what kind of things are you going to leave at the riverbed? Where they should be, and what kind of things do you need to hold on to? There's a differentiation between the two, and I hope you get to differentiate between the both. We do have to keep our composure, and that's one way to keep your composure at work, and I reckon generally in life as well. So, if you have any other ideas on how you manage anger management, or if you want to share your tips on calming the farm, so to speak, then please get in touch with me on LinkedIn.
